Good news for the environment
by trixter on Nov.21, 2009, under Political
There is a breaking news story about a group of hacker types that broke into a computer system, obtained some emails (about 200 megs worth) and released that information to the public. The institution that was broken into was the University of East Anglia’s Climatic Research Unit, who provided the key data for the UNs IPCC, shows they suppressed evidence that for the last 10 years climate change is not occuring. They also discussed ways to discredit and silence dissenters who do not agree with the IPCC report or in climate change on various levels.
This is good news because if it is proved true, and so far confirmations are starting to pour in that the data is in fact true, then all of the doom that was predicted for the planet is completely false. This means that we are not facing total extinction, sea levels will not rise and flood the coastal areas, crops will not die, we will not experience droughts of epic proportions leading to lack of water and food causing wars (why Al Gore won his nobel peace prize, for helping to prevent hundreds of wars over resource exhaustion related to climate change), and more. The ARRL and their lack of support for international communication
by trixter on Oct.25, 2009, under Political, Radio
I wrote a letter to the ARRL asking if there were any new NPRM (notice of proposed rule making) by the FCC or a campaign in the ARRL to ask the FCC to reconsider the wording of FCC rule 97.117. What I got back suprised me, and indicates that the ARRL does not want this type of communication to occur.
Specifically I used Email from services like winlink, IRLP and Echolink as examples of how 97.117 “gets in the way”, however this subject also applies to emergencies that cross borders.
If there is an emergency on the US/CA or US/MX border it is likely that ham radio operators would be involved on both sides of the disaster. However, their relief efforts are hindered by 97.117. To illustrate why I will quote 97.117. (continue reading…)
The marxist prepper network and banks
by trixter on Oct.13, 2009, under Political
The other day I shined a light on the marxist ideals that the world wide preppers network is putting out there, and I wanted to elaborate a bit on their misconceptions.
These ideals are the same ones SEIU, ACORN and even the Obama administration is pushing now. While they are entitled to their opinions, I wanted to discuss why they are factually incorrect and based upon false premises. Doing away with the banks is step one to marxism, and what will replace the banks? The government of course.
An example of how banks (and thus bankers) are inherently evil was provided to me like this:
There are 5 people on an island, a banker, a farmer and 3 others whose job is irrelevant. The farmer borrows $100 to buy some chickens, feed, fencing and related items. The farmer now owes $110, principle and interest. The farmer will not be able to pay this back to the bank because the only money that exists is $100. (continue reading…)
WorldwidePreppersNetwork
by trixter on Oct.11, 2009, under Political
I just found out that the world wide preppers network, which is supposed to be a group of people who are preparing for the end of the financial system, the ecoomy, infrastructure, etc are really just marxists. Yes that is right, they think the definition of libertarianism has nothing to do with smaller governments but rather with ending banking.
I had a long and unfruitful chat where someone got pissy and the rest joined in because I did not believe that bankers secretly rule the world and if governments do not do their bidding then they would force other countries to invade and kill everyone. They think that iraq and afganistan are this very thing. Bankers were upset that iraq and afganistan were not paying them what they felt they were owed, so they ordered the US to invade and kill people.
Seriously. But wait there is more. (continue reading…)
Cash for Clunkers
by trixter on Aug.21, 2009, under Political
I want to discuss the Cash for Clunkers or CARS program that the US recently has done. There are those that claim it a wild success. They say that this will put automakers to work, this will employ sales people, mechanics, etc. Others say that this is a horrible disaster. I wanted to opine on some of the results of this program.
GDP is all the prodcuts sold domestically during a given time window. First last quarter the GDP was expected to go up 1%, instead it went down 0.1%. If you exclude the sales from CARS it would have gone down 0.6%. This means the first billion dollars added 0.5% to the GDP.
The effect of just in time deliveries

I have been reading stories about the potential for a pandemic in relation to the H1N1 man-bird-pig flu. Yesterday I wrote about Napolitano saying that she thinks this winter H1N1 will be more like the 1957 pandemic and kill only 70,000 and not be like the 1918 pandemic which killed many more. This contradicts some studies. The H1N1 flu has already mutated to a form that is resistant to tamiflu, one of the two drugs known to work on it (the other two main drugs are known to be ineffective).
According to estimates, 20-25% of the population will be at home, either taking care of a sick relative or sick themselves. They are not in the work force. I wrote yesterday about the economic impact this could have. Today I will write about the societal impact.
Everybody Pandemic!!!11oneeleven
by trixter on Aug.04, 2009, under Political
Yesterday I wrote about how certain government types are basically saying that we are going to come out of the economic downturn soon. I cited some examples of things that can postpone this a bit, one of the unforseen things was man-bird-pig flu. It seems that today USA Today is saying that I might have been right on including that.
The economy is better, right?

According to Bloomberg, Geitner is saying that unemployment may peak in late 2010, about a year away. They were so accurate when they predicted the stimulus package would keep unemployment under 8%, it gives me confidence that they are right that it will peak in late 2010.
In that same article Ben Bernanke has said that unemployment is at 10%, although this is the U3 rate.
The government and the constitution
by trixter on Jul.04, 2009, under Political
After having multiple discussions discussing the role of the government and the constitution I have decided to start explaining different sections of the constitution and provide cites for information on why it means what it does.
First I would like to discuss the role of the government. The government is not there to protect us from ourselves, it is not there to be the babysitter for your children, it is not there to correct all societal woes. It is there to protect the rights of the people. Anything else is optional, and if not expresely forbidden the people can vote to install officials that will enact policies that they desire.
Assault on freedom
by trixter on May.05, 2009, under Political
The assault on freedom continues. HR 1966 would seek to incarcerate anyone who would “coerce, intimidate, harass, or cause substantial emotional distress to a person.”
The most dangerous thing in this whole affair is that it was proposed. This indicates that legislators think they are above any limits imposed in the constitution (and if you read the bill of rights its pretty clear they are limits imposed on the government). They think they can do anything, anytime, anywhere, and this is a dangerous thing. If you care about freedom, you should write your representatives, and follow up with a vote! If you do not follow up with a vote any other action is meaningless.
